Cattle market reform is top of mind, and the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association continues to influence key decision makers as they evaluate proposed legislative solutions. This week, the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and the House Agriculture Committee held separate hearings connected to various components of the topic. These hearings are a direct result of Iowa’s beef business banding together with others to find resolve.

The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association worked with Iowa’s congressional delegation to prepare for the hearings and submitted a letter to each committee. In our letter, we called on Congress to support a transparent and competitive marketplace with action by advancing the following bipartisan and bicameral bills:

  1. Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act of 2022
  2. Meat and Poultry Special Investigator Act of 2022
  3. A-PLUS Act

Iowa Cattlemen’s Association president Bob Noble reflected on the hearings, and provided the following statement:

“Cattle producers across the country are asking for a fair shake when it comes to participating in all markets. Price discovery, market transparency, and fair and equitable market competition have been thoroughly evaluated and solutions are in front of decision makers. As an independent cattle feeder, I’m asking Congress to follow through and act on the legislation in front of them. We thank those members of the U.S. Senate and House Agriculture Committees for their commitment to this very important topic and we look forward to their immediate action.”

The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association remains committed to influencing change on this topic.
