The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association was saddened to hear of the passing of Bill Northey, a true friend and avid supporter of agriculture. Throughout his career, he continuously supported Iowa agriculture and the Iowa cattle industry.

His influence is recognized through his involvement. Bill was a longtime supporter of the Governor's Charity Steer Show, showcasing agriculture, cattle, youth, and Iowa. During his time as the USDA Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation, Bill maintained an open line of communication with the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association. This was especially important to the cattle industry as we navigated the process of requesting pandemic assistance for producers affected by extreme market disruptions.

Bill was not only a leading advocate for agriculture, but a friend to many. He connected with producers in a personal way on issues that farmers know firsthand and shared the stories and faces of Iowa agriculture with those who did not understand our way of life.

We are grateful for Bill’s many years of service and recognize he would not have been able to do so without the support of his family. Our deepest sympathies go out to them. He will be greatly missed by many.
