Welcome to the Iowa Custom Cattle Feeders Directory
Iowa ranks fifth nationally in the number of cattle and calves on feed. Custom feeding is a big part of the Iowa cattle feeding industry and is the fastest growing segment. Custom feeding in Iowa has several advantages.
These Iowa Feedlots are nearly all owned and operated by on-site, hands-on farm families that have a wealth of experience in cattle feeding. These custom feedlots offer a wide range of services to help you decide where to feed your cattle.
Iowa is the best place to feed cattle when you add up the benefits - low feed costs, quality forages, ethanol co-products, access to feeder cattle, competitive markets and the personal touch of family-owned businesses.
"Our producers like to feed cattle in Iowa. Feed costs at Iowa feedlots are always competitive and the managers do a professional job of marketing cattle. Our producers also appreciate the personal service. Iowa feeders share information about cattle performance and carcass data. That's important to help folks get paid for the cattle they produce."
-- Raleigh Wilkerson, Alabama Farmers Federation
Professional Cattle Feeders of Iowa
Custom feedlots in Iowa are professional feeders with a full list of services available to investors and retained ownership clients.
All PCFI feedlots are inspected and meet a set of rigid standards for management and service. Partnership arrangements are possible in several locations.
The Iowa Cattlemen's Association's EID-tag program is available through PCIF-member feedlots. The service program offers producers the opportunity to collect performance and carcass data on their cattle as well as maintain source and birth certification information.
The ICA-Nebraska Market Reporting Service is used by many PCFI-member feedyards to get the latest market information, which improves opportunities to sell cattle at maximum prices.
Iowa custom feeders have access to many different grids for marketing your cattle. These grids have the potential to enhance the sale price significantly for higher quality cattle. Cattle with known genetics may bring $30-$60 per head more than average market prices when sold on the right grid.
Feedlots participating in the PCFI program are run by professional feeders who have taken the "next step" in cust feeding. The PCFI-member feedlots have been inspected by the ICA and meet a set of rigid standards for management and service. Managers of PCFI feedlots have received Beef Quality Assurance training, and have been PCFI-approved to ensure their feedlots are topnotch cattle feeding facilities.
Some of the advantages of feeding in PCFI feedlots include:
- Full list of services are available to investors and retained ownership clients.
- Meet high standards of management and service.
- Partnership arrangements are possible in several locations.
- ICA's EID-tag program is available to collect performance and carcass data.
- ICA-Nebraska Market Reporting Service is used by many PCFI-member feedlots.
In the listing below, PCFI feedlots have the PCFI-approved logo next to their information. You may also call the ICA office, 515-296-2266, and request a copy of the Custom Cattle Feeders Directory which is published in our summer edition of the Iowa Cattleman magazine.
