The Iowa Cattlemen's Association Annual Convention will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13 and Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011 at The Meadows Event and Conference Center in Altoona. The Center is part of the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino.

Pre-Convention activities on Dec. 12

On Monday, Dec. 12, Pfizer Animal Health will hold their Cattlemen's College. This is educational for all cattle operations of every size and sector.

Following the Cattlemen's College will be a feedlot tour in Story County that shows three different approaches to buildings, and three different building providers.
Sampson Farms, Nevada, offers a non-traditional feeding operation which uses a hoop/open lot setup (Winkler Canvas/Structures - winklercanvasbldg.com). The Longnecker Cattle Company, Ames, has a hoop in a confined feedlot operation (Accu Steel Buildings – asicoverbuildings.com). The Couser Cattle Company, Nevada, offers a monoslope building, alternative technology (AT) system and a new commodity building (Iowa Beef Systems – iowabeefsystems.com).

The Cattlemen’s College, feedlot tours and the meals included are being offered to ICA members at no cost. The College will be held as The Meadows Event & Conference Center from approximately 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The tour will begin after lunch and will return to Prairie Meadows for supper and a panel discussion.

Although there is no cost to the event, reservations are required in order to plan adequately for transportation and meals. Please indicate your intentions to participate in these events on the ICA Annual Convention registration form.

Agenda packed with learning sessions

Info Expo sessions are back at December’s convention. After a brief welcome on Tuesday, attendees will break into the first round of informational sessions. (Watch for details of these sessions in your November Iowa Cattleman.) County membership awards and Brand Wall presentations will be held during the Tuesday luncheon. The afternoon will consist of ICA policy committee meetings and a second round of informational sessions.

The Trade Show reception will be held early Tuesday evening, with a buffet bar to follow. Attendees will be given multiple culinary options and have the opportunity to network in relaxed social setting. Following the meal, ICA will present its Hall of Fame Award, kickoff off the ICA 40th Anniversary, and conclude with the Iowa Cattlemen’s Foundation Annual Fundraising Auction.

The annual meetings for both ICA and the Iowa Beef Industry Council will be held Wednesday morning. This will include the adoption of ICA policy by members. The annual meetings and trade show will conclude by noon.

Table Top Trade Show

ICA will again offer a trade show so members can talk to a wide variety of vendors. The trade show at this annual convention will be a table top trade show that will feature 70 vendors.

If you are a vendor who would like a space, please refer to the trade show registration form and respond quickly to ensure your spot.

Additional details about the ICA Annual Convention are being finalized and more information will be available soon, but don’t delay your registration. You can complete the provided registration form now and return to ICA.
