REMINDER! Right of Way Mowing...

HF 2458 - Right of Way Mowing states that: Mowing roadside vegetation on the right-of-way or medians on any interstate, primary highways, and secondary roads prior to July 15 is prohibited, except: within 200 yards of an inhabited dwelling; one rights-of-way within 1 mile of a city; to promote native grass; to establish control of damaging insects, noxious weeds, or invasive plants; for visibility or safety; and at rest areas, weigh stations and wayside parks.

Emmet County challenges other counties

The Emmet County Cattlemen have issued a challenge to other county associations. Recently the Emmet County Cattlemen voted to send $1,000 to the Iowa Cattlemen's Association, and is challenging other counties to do the same. Following the investment by Emmet County, if four other counties also invest $1,000, Emmet County will send another $1,000. Then, if four additional counties invest $1,000 Emmet County will again send another $1,000. This challenge will continue until Emmet County's investment reaches $5,000. The challenge has potential to generate $25,000. Counties can have a say in how ICA will use the money.

The Iowa Cattlemen's Association is very appreciative of the Emmet County Cattlemen's efforts and encourages all county associations to participate. We have not established a deadline, but it would seem reasonable to coinside with the close of membership on May 31, 2010.

Watch for more details on how your county can divide the investment in your April Iowa Cattleman magazine.

Serving safe food at your county grilling

County cattlemen groups and the grilling activities they provide are important for beef promotion in Iowa communities. Grilling for local community events not only promotes beef but creates a positive image for Iowa's cattle producers and our beef industry.

Practicing safe food handling techniques is critical to be sure your county maintains positive publicity for the beef industry, rather than the negative publicity from a food borne illness outbreak in your local community.

The Iowa Beef Industry Council will be sending information to all county presidents and treasurers. If you have additional questions call the IBIC at 515-296-2305. You can also view the Serving Safe Food at Your local event handouts by clicking the links below.
